June 2008 floods


At the beginning of June 2008, the Maroni river, bordering with Suriname, underwent a major flood event that led to the evacuation of 1000 people on the 6th and 7th of June 2008. One child is reported missing. The most affected areas are those around the villages of Providence, Mofina and Apagui, part of the Grand-Santi commune.
