After passing close to Mauritius and Reunion, the Giovanna Cyclone, Category 4 at landfall, hit Madagascar Tuesday the 14th of February 2012. Moving east-west; affecting in particular the towns of Brickaville and Vatomandry on the coast and then the capital Antananarivo. This cyclone has brought heavy rainfall and gusts of wind reaching 200 to 250 km/h. Three deaths are already reported in Brickaville and Moramanga and damage to property seems extensive. A provisional estimate delivered by the National Risk and Catastrophe Office details blown off roofs, fallen trees, isolated villages and roads blocked due to rising water levels.
