L'objectif du réseau d'excellence GMOSS est d'intégrer la recherche européenne en matière de sécurité civile, afin d'enrichir la connaissance et l'expertise en Europe pour développer et maintenir une capacité effective et autonome de suivi global par observation de la Terre. Intégré dans ce cadre, GNEX06 est un exercice en temps réel dont les objectifs sont :
  - favoriser l'intégration entre les 28 partenaires et organisations associés,
  - evaluer l'état de l'art des champs d'applications des organisations GMOSS à l'aide d'une approche en temps réel,
  - étudier et discuter des mesures politiques afin de rendre ces technologies disponibles pour un dépoiement opérationnel,
  - identifier les sujets de recherche & de travaux potentiels GMOSS.

The aim of the GMOSS network of excellence is to integrate Europe’s civil security research so as to acquire and nourish the autonomous knowledge and expertise base Europe needs if it is to develop and maintain an effective capacity for global monitoring using satellite earth observation. Within the GMOSS framework, the GNEX06 is a near real-time exercise which has the following objectives:
  - to foster further integration among the 28 partner and associated organizations,
  - to assess the state-of-the-art of technology covered by the NoE GMOSS organizations by using a near real-time approach,
  - to study and discuss policy measures to make this technology available for possible operational deployement,
  - to identify potential topics for further GMOSS work and research.
