Depuis mi-juillet, le nord-est de la Roumanie et le sud de l’Ukraine ont été touchés par une vague d’inondations catastrophiques. Les abondantes pluies durant cette période ont inondées rapidement 127 000 hectares et 8 500 maisons en Roumanie. Les infrastructures routières ont été sérieusement endommagées.

Après des jours de fortes pluie fin juillet au environ de la chaîne des Carpates des inondations ont frappé l’ouest et le sud de l’Ukraine entrainant le débordement des cours d’eau, y compris le Dniestr et Prut, qui ont débordé de leurs lits. Cet événement centennal a conduit le gouvernement à déclarer un état de catastrophe naturelle. Des centaines de villes et de villages sont atteint avec plus de 40000 maisons touchées et près de 20000 personnes évacuées.
Romania
Starting in the second half of July 2008, the North-Eastern area of Romania and southern Ukraine are affected by a wave of disastrous flood events. The abundant rains recorded in this period led to the rapid flooding of over 127 000 hectares of land and 8 500 households in Romania. In terms of material damage, the transport infrastructure was seriously affected.
Ukraine
After days of heavy rain end July around the Carpathian Mountains floods have hit western and southern Ukraine with rivers, including the Dniestr and the Prut Rivers, bursting their banks. The floods are the worst seen in a century, leading the government to declare the region a national disaster area. Hundreds of towns and villages are affected with more than 40,000 houses affected and some 20,000 people evacuated.
