Depuis début juillet 2010, d’importants épisodes pluvieux ont provoqué des crues des rivières Prut et Nistru, qui s’écoulent à l’ouest et au sud de la République de Moldavie. L’état d’alerte est maintenu le long des 1352 km que constituent ces deux rivières principales. Ces inondations touchent principalement les villes de Briceni, Cahul, Causeni, Edinet et Ungheni, ainsi que plus de 50 villages. A l’heure actuelle, on dénombre plusieurs milliers de sinistrés, et des dégâts matériels considérables. Plus de 31 000 hectares de zones agricoles ont été détruites, ainsi que 11 ponts, 4 barrages et plusieurs bâtiments administratifs.
Since early July 2010, significant rainfall events have caused flooding along the Prut and Nistru rivers, which flow in western and eastern areas of the Republic of Moldova. An alert is maintained along the 1,352 km of river stretches that make up these two major rivers in this land-locked country. The flooding primarily affects the cities of Briceni, Cahul, Causeni, Edinet and Ungheni, as well as more than 50 villages. Currently, there are thousands of people being affected, and considerable material damage. Otherwise, over 31,000 hectares of farmland and cropland are reported to have been destroyed along with 11 bridges, 4 dams and several administrative buildings.
