Le 21 février 2011 à 23h51 (UTC), la zone de Christchurch sur l'Île du Sud de Nouvelle-Zélande a été secouée par un séisme de magnitude 6,3 suivi d'une réplique de magnitude 5,6 quinze minutes plus tard. L'épicentre se trouve à 5 km au sud de Christchurch, seconde ville du pays. Le premier bilan fait état d'au moins 65 morts, de nombreuses personnes encore coincées et des dégâts matériels importants.
An earthquake of 6.3 magnitude hit the Christchurch area, South Island, New Zealand followed by an aftershock of magnitude 5.6 fifteen minutes later. The epicentre is located 5 km south from Christchurch, second largest city in the country. The first assessment reports 65 dead, a lot of people still trapped and heavy damage.
